Brent Ruiters, son of the Cape Town soil was born and raised in Belgravia Road in Athlone, and this is also where he spent a fair portion of his adult life. His primary schooling started in Bonteheuwel and continued in Athlone. From there, he moved on to Harold Cressy High School and this is where his values were cultivated and developed. After matriculating he went on to study Electrical Engineering at Athlone Technical College where Brent completed his N5 Diploma in Electrical Engineering LC. He later studied Audio Engineering at Cape Audio College where he qualified as a Sound Engineer. To date he has done numerous certificated courses and continues to do so. Studying has been an ongoing affair and where he can squeeze it in, he does. This is while he continues his career as a Facilities Manager.
Having spent his formative years, as well as in his high schooling and some years thereafter living under the apartheid regime, it really gave him a sense of just how unequal the society was at the time. Young people needed space to excel, be recognized, value their communities and strive for a better future by bettering themselves. This prompted his involvement in community sport where he spent many years as a player, a coach and later as an administrator.
When democracy eventually came, as communities they automatically had heightened expectations for their futures and for that of their children.
“Decades later many are still just hoping. We are now at the precipice of complete societal decay due to the erosion of moral and ethical leadership. Communities, our families, and friends suffer and will continue to do so, as we continue to allow politicians fueled by greed and lacking in vision, to take us forward. I need to play my part.” Brent Ruiters
“Let not anyone pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part.” (Philosopher John Stuart Mill)
