Brian Robertson describes himself as a “Born, Bred and Educated Cape Town Kid”.
He joined Irvin and Johnson Ltd Woodstock in 1972, in the factory as a stock controller and after the sale of the company to Anglo Vaal, he was part of an energetic team that saw an opportunity in exporting their products, which resulted in Brian being an experienced export coordinator.
In 1974 he started working for a small export company as the in-house export coordinator. In 1982 Brian and his colleague Peter Meihuzen got an opportunity to purchase the company and Meihuizen International, with 5 staff in 1984 was born. With 15% Equity shares in the company, it went from strength to strength. Then in 1999 he decided to start his own company called Robertson Freight with his youngest brother Neil Robertson and his children. Brian retired from the company in August 2020.
Besides supporting one political party since the privilege was afforded to Brian at the age of 41 years old, he has no political experience. Over the years he had grown frustrated and very tired of the ’Style’ of politics in South Africa so when he was first approached by Advocate Rod Solomons, convenor of a civil society organisation, SA 1st Forum, to picket and take a stand against the corruption and malpractices he readily joined him with other members of the organisation.
When SA1ST Forum morphed into CA1st Brian made it clear to Advocate Rod Solomons he wanted to be a ‘Foot-Soldier’ in the Credible Alternative 1st Movement.
“I realised that making a noise from your TV room sofa and on social media isn’t effective enough to question the ongoing shenanigans of all our existing political parties and at 68 years of age I needed to place my shoulder to the wheel and make my beloved country a beautiful place for my 7 Grandkids. I know I have been raised by good parents and have been taught good morals and I have what it takes to get Advocate Rod Solomons elected to Mayor of Cape Town in the upcoming elections on the 1st November, 2021” Brian Robertson
