Adv Rod Solomons has B.Soc. Sc and LLB degrees as well as a Certificate in Sports Law. He is a graduate of both UCT (1986) and UWC. He has extensive international management training and exposure as well as significant executive management and corporate governance, risk management and compliance expertise.

Rod is an entrepreneur who is a shareholder and director of a forensics investigation; a property development company; a management solutions company and 100% shareholder of The Rod Sol Sport & Leisure Group (Pty) Ltd. 

Currently Rod serves as Chairperson of the Council of Iziko Museums of South Africa, and serves as the National Deputy President of the UCT Black Alumni Association (UCTABA). He is a past chairperson of the UCT Alumni Advisory Board.  Rod also serves on the Board of the National Heritage Council of South Africa. He is currently active in the foundation he formed -the Yes We Can Sport & Jazz Foundation. 

Rod served on the boards of the Western Cape Sport Academy; the interim Western Cape Tourism Board; the Cape Town 2004 Olympic Bid Committee; and the Cape Craft & Design Institute, amongst others. He served as the Chairman of the South African National Boxing Control Commission and served on the Board and the Executive Committee of the South African National Film and Video Foundation. Rod is a member of the Institute of Directors of South Africa.

He was extensively involved in community structures and was the Head of the ANC in the Western Cape’s Civil Service unit in early 1990’s and a member of its Legal and Monitoring team until he lapsed his formal membership. He arranged and oversaw the lowering of the old and the raising of the new South African flags on the eve of our new democracy in 1994. Rod served 10 years as Head of Sport; Recreation; Arts and Culture in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. He oversaw the creation and functioning of various public entities. After more than 10 years of service he left government at the end of 2005 to pursue other interests. Rod is the convener of the civil society grouping, SA1st Forum that empowered South Africans to get their voices back to speak out against corruption and hold those in authority accountable to ensure our people, country, and constitution are put first. 

Rod is an avid golfer; enjoys listening to jazz music; and is a keen supporter of youth development. Rod is regarded as a socio-political commentator who regularly comments on a variety of issues as it relates to South African society and from time to time, internationally.
