Sean Nefdt has a long history in the struggle and started his high school career in the 1980’s at Oaklands High School, Lansdowne and was elected chairperson of the debating society.
He later became the chairperson of the SRC in the turbulent years. In 1984 he matriculated and joined the workforce, still managing to stay abreast of current events. He, along with others, started the Athlone Youth Movement (AYM) to conscientize the youth to the philosophies of Karl Marx, Lenin and Trotsky and the ultimate betrayal by Stalin.
Sean joined South African Nylon Spinners as a Lab assistant then was promoted to their IT Department in the late 80’s. In 1990, he joined Safmarine as a Computer Administrator untill he resigned in 1997 to form his own IT business which he presently still owns.
Sean is an avid artist and enjoy creating beautiful oil paintings, he is the founder of Art4All, a collective of local artists, and holds various exhibitions for several years around Cape Town.
He initiated the Facebook Unsung Heroes forum to interview various struggle heroes to tell their stories and make it known.
He was an active member of the civil rights movements like the UDF, ANC and was present at many of their rallies. Sean later became disillusioned with the ANC after their many public failures. The refusal of the ANC to allow the Dalai Lama entry into South Africa was the turning point for him.
Sean was one of the founding members of Agang, the political party. There was good support but was later betrayed by their leader who was offered a mayoral position by Hellen Zille, and the party fell apart.
Sean was then informally approached by a candidate for the EFF to join their movement in the Cape but declined due to his stance that he could not principally serve under the leadership of Julius Malema. Sean joined the SA1st Forum and participated in a few of the initiatives that they organized. They later morphed into CA1st movement and are contesting in the local elections of which he is an active candidate.
