CREDIBLE ALTERNATIVE 1ST MOVEMENT AGHAST THAT THE IEC IS ONLY ALLOWING 13 PARTIES ACCESS TO THE OFFICIAL RESULTS CENTRE

The Credible Alternative 1st Movement (CA1st) is taking the decision of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), to only allow 13 provincial parties access to the IEC Results Centre, in Cape Town, under review. This is an affront to our democracy and it relegates the rest of the parties to mere spectators at the end of the electoral process and as the results are to be revealed.

“This is a continuation of the narrative of big and small parties, that some political parties have been propagating,” says CA1st party leader and mayoral candidate, Advocate Rod Solomons. “It is unfortunate that with this decision, the IEC has given credence to that narrative. We call on them to reconsider that decision, failing which, we will have no option but to approach the Electoral Court to set it aside.”

“Being at the Results Centre means you are at the cauldron of the democratic process. If we allow this decision to stand, then we might as well agree that smaller parties or new entrants are of no value in South African politics.”
