The City of Cape Town Is Flip-Flopping. Can They Be Trusted?
It was reported that DA Leader Steenhuisen said he had instructed his deployees to the City of Cape Cape Town to investigate using golf courses in Cape Town for the building of houses, particularly low cost homes. I responded as follows:
“This is just election speak. When they had the opportunity to give practical effect to this, the Cape Town City Council turned down the objections to renewing the lease of Rondebosch Golf Club. King David Golf Club’s land was allowed to be sold for industrial development not housing & they moved to Mowbray Golf Club. This is nothing but dangle a carrot in front of desperate voters before an election because the DA knows nothing will come of this! Shameful, that they are again playing with the emotions of voters like this”
When the DA put up those thoughtless posters in Durban about Phoenix, many of us called them out for being insensitive and for unnecessarily flaming race relations. Steenhuisen called the scandal an “unhelpful distraction” from their national campaign and Geordin Hill-Lewis, the Cape Town mayoral candidate of the DA has echoed this. Steenhuisen had initially defended the DA upon being asked about the Phoenix poster debacle. Later on, the party had to sheepishly apologise & took the posters down. They are now refering to the issue as a distraction from their campaign. This appears to be nothing more than avoidance of the problem and an attempt to silence people who, rightfully, want answers.
“A party that keeps flip-flopping on key issues like this cannot be taken seriously and cannot be trusted. This confirms that Cape Town needs a Credible Alternative” says Adv Rod Solomons, leader of #CA1st Movement and Mayoral Candidate.
